I'm looking to buy a 1970 Fury and about 12 inches of the car will need to fit under a shelf in my garage. The car is in another city so I can't measure it. Can someone tell me how much clearance I will need? Thx, Jeff

Welcome to the site from the Motor City! I don't have a measurement for you but I'm sure somebody will be along with your needed measurement soon.

My car has no rear axle in it right now and parts missing in the engine compartment, so no help here, sorry.

Not the exact same, but my 69 Monaco is 36" at the leading edge, and 37.5" at the 24" mark. I'll be watching to see how close this is to a 70 Fury. Of course, it will vary depending on the tire size as well.

Thank you. I have 36" so may have to modify the garage a bit (or deflate the tires).

Front of hood 3' 2"
Rear of hood 3' 3"
Trunk by window 3' 5"
Trunk at rear 3' 3"

The front 3' 2" allows by-eye clearance for the hood bumps.
I would like the bottom of the shelf to be about 3" 5" to allow a minimum of 2" clearance if you every decide to back the car in. My car has Hankook H724 P235/75R15 tires which are pretty well stock diameter. If you use bigger tires or play with the torsion bars you may need more shelf clearance.

Thanks Bill! That's just what I needed. Nice car you have there! The one I'm looking at is a convertible too.

Here are a few pics of the car I am thinking of buying.

Holy Crap! You go and buy that baby as fast as you can get your buns over there. Do not tell anyone where the car is until it's safely in your garage!!

I'm looking at your pictures and all is fine until I see the VIN number, PM27R0D233592 and I wonder what heck is an "R" code engine. I found a web site that says for 1970:

R - 426 2-4BBL 8 Cylinder "RB" engine (Hemi)
T - 440 1-4BBL 8 Cylinder "RB" engine
U - 440 1-4BBL 8 Cylinder "RB" engine (High Performance)
V - 440 3-2BBL 8 Cylinder "RB" engine (High Performance)

If true, it's probably the only one on the planet!

Lol, hey if you pass on the car....it would go to a VERY good home here. Just sayin....:D

Don't know, all I saw was the door tag. Looking at the picture showing thed hood, the badge doesn't look like 383 or 440, but if I squint long enough it starts to look like Hemi. I'd really like to see the dash VIN, the fender tag and under the hood.

Need a better picture. No matter how I look at it, I can't really see either 383 or Hemi. This is what a Hemi badge on a '70 Fury looks like.

I'll start a new thread for pics and progress, to the extent I make any.

As for the engine, please see the date of that post. :poke: It is actually an N-code 383.
