Looking into getting my first Mopar hopefully soon-ish. I've already found a car that im interested in, and it will need a paint job. No problemo, I've already made my mind up on a high gloss black. However, I want to also put a spat of nose art on the front, as well as a name for the car, and I'm curious as to what paint I should use for the art and name, and how that would be affected by a high gloss paint.

how about a vinyl wrap? you can get custom design printed out either on gloss black wrap or a separate piece and double up the wrap....

If you take car if it, like ceramic coat and stuff it should last a good while...and later down the line..if you want a change..off it comes...It’s what I intend to do if I buy a wagon with a color combo I don’t fall in love with…wrap it something else (coincidently I also want a high gloss black...There's a company that makes a pretty accurate Bentley Beluga Black), try it out for couple months and if don’t like it , just take it off and try something new…if I do fall In love with the combo, maintain the wrap and then get it properly painted.

Vinyl stencils. Honestly, that's the reasonable and more justifiable option of the two, and one id consider if not for my abstract sensibilities. I loved the hand brushed paint work that people like Ken Binkley did for old race cars.

Thats the only reason, but perhaps vinyl will be the only real solution here.

Don't feel comfortable sharing photos of the car just yet as it belongs to someone here, and I'd hate to be so pompous as to make any of my dealings with them or intentions with the car public knowledge before I can assuredly call the car mine, which might be a while yet, as I just got sacked with an unexpected 2203 USD bill.

The art is still being drawn up, and I'm deciding on a font for the name, but the paint will be in front of the driver door, and behind the wheel well.

Regardless, I might opt for a vinyl, although I'd like to paint the art on solidly for permanence and to satisfy my arbitrary desire to mimic the old painters of years past.

So if anyone has any clue on paint adhesion and how the paint should be layered, say for instance

Metal
Primer
Paint
Art
Clearcoat

It would be much appreciated.

For what it is worth, the car im looking at, although not necessarily keen on, is a Chrysler Newport Fusie, with a paint job that's worn enough that it will certainly be getting a new coat entirely, in high gloss black, should I come to own it.
