Historical Assembly Plant Photo

Hemmings Classic Car magazine has a monthly column called "I Was There" with stories of folks who used to work in plants. None of the stories that I've read were told through rose-colored glasses. I enjoyed reading them, though.

My favorite story is my friend's dad was a lifelong retired GM Assembly Plant worker bee. Over the course of years, the models that chugged off the end off the line changed many times.
I asked him what what model were they producing when he retired.
He said he didnt know....

He was well glazed over by then!

They save the boys for the lead battery and the chrome plating divisions.

I gave 87 dayz to FOMOCO in the Pico Rivera, Ca. plant in '59 and the best thing they could have done for me they did by laying me off before I got the last 3 dayz in so I wasn't unionized. They wanted me back ah month later for what I guessed would be another 87 dayz and I told 'um to stuff it in their shortz!
