Pulled the plugs out of my 68 New Yorker to check. 440 TNT. I got it out of storage 2 weeks ago. I have driven it @ 50 miles since. This is after 4 cold starts without letting it completely warm up. ( moving in/out of garage )
Car runs well. I have tuned the carb using a vacuum gauge. @ 15 degrees of timing at idle. Advance plat to keep total mech timing @36.
Not sure what else I can do to make run a bit leaner.
I do have some J10Y plugs, but they do not have the extended porcelain.
I will clean these plugs tomorrow at work.

It seems like both my 68 300's with 440's ran a little rich no matter what I did. First one had a holley, this one has an edelbrock and its not as bad. A good highway run might always clear up the plugs.

I concur with "more run time" on the highway. I know that J10Y was the normal spec for 4bbl motors, but I used J12Y in my '70 383 4bbl with NO issues. Burned light tan on the porcelains.

Just some thoughts,

What carb are you running. It is always going to run rich at cold idle. If blowing out the carbon with a long drive doesn't do it and your valve seals are not leaking then I would lower the jets in the carb. Depending on what carb you have will depend on how this is done.

When I was young my grandma drove a 69 Chrysler with a 440. She did drive like a little old lady, not going over 45 mph just about everywhere she went. About once a month she would ask my dad to fix it because it was running poorly. His fix was to run it hard down the highway for about 20 miles. It would then run fine for another month. lol

My brother had a 19691/2 440-6pak super bee, around town for a bit than out on the highway to " blow it out"!

Stock carb.
once i got the fuel off the plugs, they seemed a little better. I may have got out ahead of myself
