It's sad that in my 27 year A.F. career and 7000+ hours of flying, I never got the chance to Refuel a SR-71, But I did get to do the T-birds!

From your career you're probably aware that the SR-71's had a special fuel that was a bit thicker than other jet fuel.

I know they leaked fuel on the ground and explosion proof tools were used.

Normal jet fuel is JP-4, SR's used JP-7 and from what i have heard it's gel like.

Once in the air and at altitude everything heats up and grows sealing the bird up. No more leaks
