Way back maybe 20 years ago I was with a buddy who was looking some parts for a New Yorker he had. He got a tip that a junk yard in Winston-Salem, NC had some old C body cars. So drove over there. Big modern junk yard with mostly imports. Went inside to the busy parts counter. The guy got the owner to come out of his office to talk with us. He told us to walk way back in the back & a bunch of old Chrysler’s back there. After walking past a half mile of Jap cars we came up on what clearly was the older part of the yard & kept walking & sure enough about 30 plus old C bodies & 50 old 4 door B bodies. And there it sat. A 69 -71 CHRYSLER 300 converted to a pick up. Looked to be in good shape. 440 engine still in it. After spending a couple hours drooling over all the cars we hiked back to the office & I asked him about that 300. It was for sale. Cheap too. I can’t remember the price but I want to say 500 bucks. I could tell he was fond of those old cars. GM & Ford. That’s why none had been crushed. He was hoping someone would come along & start buying them. No I didn’t buy anything. Bad timing , & I kinda forgot about the place over the years untill I saw that pic of the Fury.

I definitely like the proportions of the 300 version, compared to the Fury version. "Behind the seat" storage, too!

The thing about using a wagon-based conversion is that many station wagons were "used up and thrown away", although the chassis and powertrain were savable, which makes them "of lower value" AND a candidate to do something else with than a full restoration of. The conversion gives them "new life", so to speak, rather than rusting away under a tree somewhere. Still, a lowering of the production numbers of any station wagon can be undesirable. Two sides to the discussion.
