Left Hand Lug Nuts

[Sport Fury GT]

I need a set of 5 or 10 left hand lug nuts for my 1970 Plymouth Sport Fury GT. It has the C body factory road wheels. Local tire shop stripped the nuts and broke a stud off. Post reply . Any help is appreciated.

Check with your closest NAPA store or Advanced Auto. Dorman still supply's them. I don't have a part number.

Every so often they are advertised by some in the "Mopar restoration" realm of things. There are several aftermarket chrome lug nuts which are "close match" to the top of the OEM chrome lug nuts, so you might get a full set for the LH and RH sides. They are not quite as generic as some might suspect, by observation.

Seems like the chrome ones from the restoration sources were about $5.00/each last time I looked?

I understand your plight. I picked up my Sport Fury in Detroit in the summer of 2004 and my brother and I road-tripped it back to California. It was a great time, and I had it checked out before making the trip, but after driving across the country I wasn't all that happy with how the power drum brakes were stopping the car. So, one of the first things I did was take it to the local Chrysler Plymouth dealer to have the brakes checked out just to be sure. Not being sure how familiar they were with the older models I reminded them about the right-hand/left-hand lug nuts when I brought it in... and they still broke off one of the wheel studs with an airgun. Then, to add insult to injury, they refused to fix it and told me I was responsible for finding a replacement wheel stud for them to use! Seriously! I am not making this up. Oakdale is a small town, so I simply went to the local NAPA, bought one for about $3, and brought it back to them to replace the one they broke. Of course from that point on I knew they were just a bunch of coneheads so I never went back to them for any other service, and Chrysler shut them down a couple years later. True story. FYI, when I upgraded to the 73 Chrysler power disc brakes a couple years ago I also converted the left-hand wheel studs over to right-hand studs to make it simple for anyone working on the car in the future.

Type in "Lug Nut Guys", I got the left hand thread lug nuts I needed from them for installing Magnum 500 wheels on my '68 Fury. They actually sell a complete package of 10 left and 10 right.

As a purist, you are going to have to find NOS lefts, or use original lefts, that have the the correct "machined head" or "nipple", or "tit" machine mark in the top of the lug nut. None of the aftermarket lug nuts have this correct but "crude" factory defect.

Aftermarket "nuts" don't have "tits"; and you need some "tits"! You can always tell an original car or correct restoration by the "tits" on the "nuts".

Get some "tits".
