Sounds like Franks reasoning yet it makes sense. I haven't seen one of those in thirty years ..

I get your logic but I am not goin to spend 500 bucks for a untested nos radio that might not work. So I will just keep lookin

For that specific radio, a NOS one in perfect working order, 500 bucks is not out of line. High? Yes. But not out of line.
That's also a strange item to be so focused on but I do the same thing on some weird stuff...

I've seen the same sort of pricing on used console tachs. For $500 the seller should have no problem testing it for you.
 
I'm finding plenty of GM AM/FM/CB radios on ebay that have the same shaft spacing and faceplate opening.
