I thought I would share this tidbit of information. Since I am not doing much and I feel like sharing. Every original boot I have seen in a 1970 Convertible has "Lyons Trim Plant " stamped on it.

When I had done a Google search way back it yielded this nice little article, very sad actually. Another stitch in the fabric of American life, gone.

Great research, Dave. It was a shame when this happened, but it is even more of a shame that Unions continue to run competent businesses to other countries even today.

That's funny because Mamopar gave the reason for closure as cost cutting, to me that says we're not making enough money. At the end of the article it was the UAW and government bringing the plant back from 100 jobs to the employment level at closure. WHO brought about the 8 hour work day? Who brought about health and safety in the work place and gave everyone the opportunity to make overtime pay.NOT WALLMART or any other employer, it was unionized workers. Yes there are bad things that unions did but the above mentioned improved every ones life. It affords me the ability to restore a car and the purchase of a UINION built Challenger.

No one seems to remember what happened to Chrysler in 1979. Chrysler was failing pretty rapidly and headed to bankruptcy. Iacocca was laying people off left and right starting in 1978. In 1979 he had to beg the government for loan guarantees to stay afloat and then go on to build mini vans and K cars.

1979 was not a good year for anybody at Chrysler.

That's funny I was just looking up Lyons Trim yesterday before seeing this topic. Sad! I read another article about how there's annual reunions / get-togethers of former plant workers in the town.

Here's pics of my quarter trim panels when I had 'em out...
