With mixed feelings I am thinking about selling The Flyin' Whale. For all the details on this car and its build please go to this link and please read all of the details posted outlining the build of this car:
The Flyin' (Flying) Whale ('66 300) Hits the streets again!
The price for a member of this forum is $20,000. Before you start flaming me or thinking that I am nuts please read the detailed description of everything that was done to this car when it was transformed from a California Survivor to possibly the best handling and one of the fasted C Bodies on this earth with over $25,000 having been spent on the modifications to this car. When the builder of this car built it in 2005 his goal was essentially to make a '66 Chrysler 300 a Corvette killer. I think he came close and may have succeeded if you compare this car's handling and performance to that of a 2005 era Corvette.
I am currently having the transmission converted from a reverse pattern manual shift automatic to a fully automatic shift transmission and am having a deep pan and a better transmission cooler added.
This car should run the quarter mile in the 11 second range with it's current tires but with the pandemic and tracks being closed I have not had a chance to take the car to the track.
I don't need to sell this car and I might consider just selling the engine (550 HP @ the rear wheels).
The following are some of the things that have lead me to exploring/thinking about selling the Flying Whale and I apologize in advance for the length of this post.
The last 16 months have been very expensive for me with making improvements to my former Connecticut house to get it ready to sell, moving to North Carolina, which required three 26' box trucks of furniture, household items, tools and NOS and used car parts, 2 daily driver cars, a pickup and six C bodies plus we drove down in our motorhome pulling a 26' enclosed trailer packed with tools, car parts and some household items. We have since sold the motorhome.
On top of this, things did not work out with our buying the house that we moved down here to buy due to some uncovered issues and a seller that backed out of a deal to compensate us for said issues so that resulted in more than a few thousand in attorney's fees, costs to move again, costs for all the appraisals and inspections on a second house (the second/current house cost more than the original house that we were going to buy but is much nicer and larger) and costs for some things for the new house including two single-post ramp style lifts. On top of this, recent dental work is costing me almost $4500.
I have one car undergoing a restoration, another one that I need to put back together and re-gasket etc. and detail the engine and transmission to complete the restoration and I'd like to get some things done to my '71 Fury wagon so money obtained from selling the Whale would be very helpful, but again I don't have to sell it.
I have also come to the realization that as I age, having 6 C Bodies to take care of and having a garage that will only store 4 of them just won't work for me. I want to enjoy my C Bodies and my ambition to work on them and my physical ability to do so is diminishing greatly as I age and there will be no more restorations in my future once my current projects are finished. As a result, other cars may also go up for sale and as time permits, I am going to be selling some of my surplus spare parts.
Back to the Flying Whale. Below are some photos that are not in the attached thread link.
I plan on bringing the car to Carlisle and as of right now I plan to have it on the show field in the C Body Modified section.
Questions are welcomed.
The mold on the cardboard panels has been cleaned off but the panels have some worn spots.
