Nice, thanks Jeremy and @rd92west for the info! This past Spring I bought a 77 Warlock pickup truck 440 that only has the letter E stamped on the top pad, nothing else.
@70bigblockdodge the tranny innards is one of the major reasons I nabbed it, sorry.

I remember that one now, commenting that it was only stamped for the cast crank. Even the 2 1972 warranty 440 blocks we had were stamped

The transmission innerds is exactly why I'm spending money on it.
I said I'm having it rebuilt. That's not totally true. It's being inspected and freshened up, and getting a mild shift kit installed.

Would this be considered an engine for the 73 model year? The one I picked up very recently is dated similarly. It has all the good stuff - 6 pack rods, forged crank, double timing chain, windage tray, etc. 213 heads on mine. Straight plugs. Also scant info on the upper pad.
