Thought you guys would get a kick out of this.
It’s like a breath of fresh air up here. The LA crowd mercilessly makes fun of Lancaster/Palmdale but we have the last laugh. We call the few starbucks we have up here hipster preserves.Nice to see a small island of class in an ocean of politically correct b. s. The Gunney must be smiling. Urragh!
Great pic !!!Took a tour of Edwards flight line back in September. A FABO member worked there. Saw some cool stuff. F35s, a B2, B52. Drove by the hanger where they keep the B1.surrounded by double electrified fence and sentry dogs. We stopped at the boneyard where they store some of the old test planes before going in for restoration for the museum. It was right by the hanger. There were some AF police types there training with their dogs so I didn’t get a chance to sneak a picture. Got some of the MQ9 and some F35s

Great pic !!!
Did you make it to the Nasa Dryden gift store ? Some cool stuff in there.
I seen a guy arrested for using his phone in a restricted area on China Lake. We are helping redo the runways up there and at Edwards. Edwards always had a no photos in THAT direction policy but EAFB has really cranked up their security in the last few years. Don’t even get me started to on Palmdale Airport. They almost lit up me and Clarence our generator tech. The guard made us back up a 1/4 mile before I could turn around. They called me back out there a week later and you know what I totally forgot to go back...

Well, he obviously had a flightline pass. He drove my Dodge, it was kinda funny, here’s a 2007 CTD with Arizona plates driving down a restricted flightline. It was a light day, not much going on. My buddy pointed out that we were being watched, you could see the cameras and how they followed you as you drove by. My wife gave them a wave. There was a group of people on a tour that were clamoring around a B1 so tours are a common occurrence.
The two areas we didn’t visit was the NASA facility and the Palmdale area which is connected to Edwards. My buddy is in charge of the support equipment. He doesn’t go into those areas. If they need some equipment delivered or serviced they go to a certain point on the flightline where they meet up with their people and drop off or pickup the equipment.
The NASA area is restricted. They basically do their own thing. You can go down the road to the perimeter fence and drive by the facilities however you may draw attention to yourself.
Real interesting that Edwards has over 35 runways, half of which are on the lake bed. They use those mostly to test landing on rough terrain and emergency landing. He said the last one was where an F16 had to make a belly landing.

You mention a B-1 a couple of times. I'm surprised that it would be behind a double fence.

That would be awful fun. I’d rather tour the flight line than be out there looking at heavy equipment that need parts or repairs.
I forgot they renamed the Dryden Center. They have a bitchin’ display of stuff like the craft the 6 million dollar man crashed at the beginning of each show. They told me shoot anything you like out here but nothing in that (southeast ?) direction. Must have been a great trip.
