Hi all, I may need a neutral safety switch and don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it $65. and up!! Is there an alternate number or numbers or equivalent I could try? I'm guessing these were used in many applications? Thanks in advance.

You had better pay attention to the CORRECT one, also.....

The N S 1 , fits 1955 - 1964.....
The N S 9, fits 1963 - 1968......

There is overlap, as you notice, on 1963 & 1964... I would have to get into my catalog for 1963 & 1964 --- because I don't recall off the top of my head what the difference is, but it is clearly spelled out in there..... if anyone needs to know ......

Both of them --- NS 1 and NS9 --- have become roughly $ 65 and up..... there is N O $ 25 switch NEW on either of them for many years now......

Craig.....

Thanks, I forgot to mention my car is a 57 Belvedere 301 V8

So, on a 1957, the NS1 is the common one....
They actually have two (2) different ones for the 1955 - 1964 !!! Listing......

It is based on where they mount, I do recall, Manifold Mounted versus Transmission Mounted... again, I can get into my old catalog to let you know exactly what the difference is..... the oddball one, I actually do much less expensive, because I have quite a few of them, from deals I have bought / places I have closed out...

I will look, and report back to all of you here in a little while...... Craig......

Page 220 in the FSM says tighten switch until electrical contact is made then tighten 1/3-1/2 turn tighter.

Make sure transmission is in neutral.

Make sure the concave of the spring washer faces the transmission.
I thought there was a torque value on these but one did not appear in the FSM.
