Paint under hood.

I was told either the body color or black. I did body color, MISTAKE. I should have done black because my car is white and you can see it through the grill. I will be changing it to black with a lot of work in taping and papering. Grrrrrr!
Black paint was used ONLY on lighter colour cars. The idea was Chrysler didn't want to see body colour behind the grille. Any of the dark colours would not get the sloppy sprayed in black paint. There's no masking to this. There was a guy with a paint gun on the line part of whose job it was to spray the areas on either side of the rad opening black. It's a couple of quick swipes and it's job done. Points deducted for neatness!!! LOL!

Mine is gold so i got sloppy black haha. But im building for me and not going to shows so i dont mind if its sloppy haha

Satin black looks great, but the flat black is factory and the most common. On my '69 Dodge D300 truck (white), the area behind the grille was done in Flat Black...and very half-assed, as they all were. I did the entire core support (facing the front) in Satin Black, and it looks fantastic!

That's going to be my next detail item on the Imperial - removing the horns and power steering cooler to paint those Satin Black, and then paint the radiator support (facing the front) Flat Black.

Although the B9 blue did not get the blackout I chose to have it painted a low gloss black (front side only, corner to corner, not sloppy)

my 1969 300 Vert. project in final stages of dismantling early last month.

Other than age/dirt/patina, exactly as it rolled off the line (body color "F3"). everything was what looked like "flat black" in front of rad. support, just like when it rolled out Jefferson Ave Jan 1969.

Yes, fairly "sloppy" far right & left, underside front edges of fenders, and as pointed out the rad. support under/thru the black was body color.
