Why was oil filter dry, should always be filled before installation. Is the gear turning on the shaft aftermarket ones are pinned to prevent this.

How do you keep oil in a horizontal filter long enough to install it?

The filter material soaks up a lot of the oil and holds it back for a sec. Just be quick and have the pan under it.
Oh. And roll up your sleeve.

Here's the junk but I belive it's old junk as some of it seems to be hardened corc valve cover sealing and I never used corc valve cover.
No metal what so ever, it's far to light...

That appears to be oil seal particles, some of which may be lodged in the oil pump. Pull a valve cover off and look for particles in the head and drain holes.

Thanks everyone for all your advice!!
I changed the pickup and oil pump, did fill the filter half way and primed the system and now the pressure is back!

Please don't forget Wollfen's advice about the timing sprockets... it is a sad day when the chain skips... especially if you get it bad enough to ruin valves and pistons... Never saw a short chain that didn't need replaced by 100k even if it showed no problems... the plastic on the cam sprocket just makes that worse.

Timing sprockets and chain are replaced earlier, the small plastic pieces in the the screen must be from the old nylon sprocket.

The long filter will hold a quart, but don't fill it all the way. 1/2 pint or so will do it.

Honestly though... I don't bother.

Timing sprockets and chain are replaced earlier, the small plastic pieces in the the screen must be from the old nylon sprocket.

Usually the valve guide seals get brittle after time, and break into pieces that end up in the pick up. Same with the timing gear teeth.
