Well, I did it. Pulled the tranny to get all the leaks fixed, so decided it was time to pull the motor to do a frame on restoration. Seats should be done by end of the week, need to chose paint to do engine bay, then detail motor/tranny, re-install so I can drive it while I prep the rest of the car for paint. Not sure how this car is going to fit in my home-made paint booth, it is considerably longer than my Firebird...

While I have it apart, going to change out upper/lower ball joints previous owner left me, any special pitfalls I need to know before I start this? Kel IMG_20140722_185921243.jpgP3250021.jpg

nothing major, just check the control arm & sway bar bushings real well.

Also check the electrical firewall block out really closely to make sure there is no major corrosion going on..

Yea, I was admiring that myself. Pretty nice.

I know many people will bang on the Harbor Freight stuff...I personally have very good luck with most everything I've bought from there. This engine hoist I bought about 8-9 years ago, paid $150, have pulled at least a dozen motors with it, never failed me. Just like the the floor jack I bought at the same time, replaced the seal on it once in that time. I also primed the Firebird with the $12 paintgun and used the $50 paint gun to do the color, came out really nice, even impressed the Sherwin Williams paint rep.

Hey that red car is not a Fury, jk. I would change lower control arm bushings while you are at it cheap and almost always bad or going bad and if you are already at the ball joint just makes sense.

Yep,I'd change those lower control arm bushings since you've already got it apart.Just a little more work to get the job done rather than having to disassemble your front end again in the future. Most likely they will need replacing if they haven't already been replaced within the past few years. It will also give your front end a tighter feel. And since you've got to slide your torsion bars back it might also be a good time to check those torsion bar boots and replace them if needed.

While motor is out, took the carb off to install rebuild kit and detail. Used Eastwoods carb paint, not sure how long it will last, but looks nice for now. Want to thank Charles for the parts that arrived today, installed both vent regulators, they open/close nice and smooth, thanks man! Kel

BTW, for you eagle eyes out there, yes, I did get all the screws tightened :sSig_thanks:
