I guess I haven't posted anything about this engine we just dyno'd. Pop built a 440 for his truck in 1997 and it wasn't used much. We needed an dyno mule to test our ported 346 factory iron heads so we pulled it from the truck and made a few changes to it.

We changed intake valves and intake manifolds and it eventually made 522 TQ and 540 HP.

Thanks for the update and posting it here also. Can't wait to get my bro in laws smogger 440 out to the track with the changes and see what I get.

Very impressive ! At what RPM did you get those 552 / 540 numbers ? Was that with larger intake valves, and what intake manifold did you use ?

500+ hp without stroking it.
I knew it could be done without breaking into a sweat.
Nice job.

Well of course it was 522/540. Yes larger valves, single plane M1. I can't find that dyno sheet at the moment. Here is a back up run.

Ever think of breaking away from Mass Market Comp Cams? I see another 25 - 30 easy.

Think of it all the time. We're having fun with what we have laying around.

Put in the 72R Racer Brown roller cam ground in 1967, 528tq/590hp, still with the 346 iron heads. We'll do some more tests Monday with this combination. Then put on the Indy EZ heads flowing 350cfm @ .600". The EZ heads will also give us 10.4:1 instead of the 8.9:1 we have now. Then we'll switch back to the Comp XE285HL and see how it will work with the EZ heads.

I'm going to have to sit down and play computer guy and make a spread sheet or something I'm having trouble keeping it straight in my head thanks.

Great work!
