I just picked up another 68 Monaco 500 Convertible (I know I'm a sucker for punishment!)
This one is an automatic with a 318.
This one has a glass rear window, my first one has a plastic rear window.

My question is do I have to unzip the window before lowering the top or can I lower the top with the window still zipped?

I had a 68 Coronet 500 convertible...I installed a glass rear window. I always unzipped the glass and put it down before lowering the top.

The original owner of my car (70 Polara Ragtop) told me that she lowered the top once when the temperature was near freezing and the glass shattered. I currently have a plastic rear window. There is likely less flexibility in the vinyl as the temperatures drop. Welcome BTW and looking forward to the pics.

67 was the first year a glass back window was available, that was what I was told when I orderd my top for my 67 polara 500 vert, plastic is nice and flexable but turns yellow here in the desert so I went with glass,,however the glass is very thin and will break very easily,,so make sure the glass is zipped in place and the well area dosen't have anything in it,,if it breaks and you have to replace it just remember the cost to have the top replaced,,cause you're gona pay it again.

I have owned and driven my past 69 Sport Fury Vert from 1976 though 1999 prior to putting it away to restore (which I never ended up doing ) :fit: and in all those years using the car "ALWAYS" only had to back windows break on me. One was while I was putting the top down and some knucklehead put her jacket in the convertible well and I never checked "BOOM" ! !!!! and the other time was during the winter when we had 3' of snow "THE BLIZZARD of 78" :snow plow:

after that I ended up going with a plastic one which needed to be replaced about four times due to fogging & discoloration. With my new found Sport Fury Vert I will go with glass and still not unzip it before putting the top down.

All the Chrysler Plymouth and Dodge convertibles from 67-71 had glass rear windows and were designed to allow the top to be lowered without unzipping the rear glass. Of course, if anything is in the top well or in the trunk interfering with the top well, then there would be a risk of breakage when lowering. I have had glass rear windows on every 67 & 68 Mopar convertible I've had since 1976, and I've never unzipped a rear glass, and I've never had a rear glass break.
