I have some pot metal trim parts that are in need of re-chroming. Any preferred suggestions? There's too many to choose from!

Typically, chroming costs by "the batch", rather than "the piece". After you get everything together that you (and some friends) want to get chromed, THEN take it to the desired chrome.

ONE observed thing about getting castings chromed or re-chromed. Think of it like doing body work with bondo. You want just enough to get everything "straight", but not so much that any related detailing (corners, designs, etc.) get rounded out of disappear under the build thickness of the multi-layer metal process.

There's also "show chrome" and "OEM chrome". I'd suggest the "OEM chrome" but not let that to be an excuse for them to do grainy work. There are probably some YouTube vids of the whole process. The cleaning, the dip tanks, the final finish work, etc. One of the old PowerBlock-type shows had some segments on a place in Nashville that was quite informative. So you can use something like that as a guide when you go looking.

You can also ask around at the Harley (or similar) bike shops as to where they'd send parts to be chromed.

So, look at the various dips and re-application of the various under-coasts as paper thin, such that their build-up does not obscure any of the parts details and edges.

Just some thoughts,

Custom Plating Specialists in Brillion, WI do an excellent job.
Another place to contact is Iverson Automotive. 800-325-0480, or e-mail at. georgeiver@aol.com
I think Iverson are in Minnesota, not sure, but they work magic on die-cast.
I’ve seen the work both of these places put out, and both are excellent.
Search their web sites and check them out.

Keep in mind that the expense of plating pot metal is in preparation and not in the actual chroming process. The better the piece that you give them, the better the results are and hopefully a better price. Sometimes it's better and cheaper to find parts that need less work.
