Really upset ATM...

Come out this morning and find some ******* backed into my car! The trunk is dented and the light housing is dented. Granted it wasn't painted, but I've been working on the rear of the car and getting it ready for paint. I have to call my insurance company and see if they'll do any thing. I'm so upset. The trunk was straight and now it's not. Also the light housing needs to be replaced. That can't be fixed.

Just got off the phone with the insurance company and an adjuster will be calling in a few days. Looking at this further,.it looks like the trunk is racked. Like it's pushed up on the drivers side. Not a good day here. The bezels weren't perfect, but they were straight and so was the trunk. What makes it worse is that everyone around here knows the car and they didn't even knocked on my door to tell me they hit it. I hope the insurance company covers it. They said it was a hit and run. I'm pissed to say the least.

Does anyone know where I can get a good set of the inner bezels? Outer tail lights are fine. I checked eBay and theres a person who has NOS one, but the guy is nuts and wants $895 for it. Is it gold plated??!! Lol.

Somebody in a company truck backed into my wife while she was a the gas pump. The only reason he didn't drive off was because his supervisor was in another truck ahead and made him stop. Some people have integrity...sadly, many do not.

No way to find out who was the perpetrator, huh? I bet they thought since its a classic car the damage didn't matter any. You could just go to a junk yard to fix it. I say this because I ran somebody down years ago for tapping my qtr panel in a supermarket lot. They didn't realize I saw the whole thing happen. The chick was just gonna drive off like nothing happened...some mindless bimbo. That was the excuse she gave me. Had I a firearm at the time I probably would have been executed by now.

Unfortunately there's no way to find out who did it, but I can say that it was a truck. The hit was to high to be a car. I know late at night there is a piece of **** Ford pickup that comes in the lot. It was probably what hit me. I have a question. Would the trunk lid from a 4 door fit a 2 door model? I'm pretty sure there's no differance, but just making sure. Also found the red one at Murry Park. I'm hoping my insurance company will pay for it.

That really sucks. I feel bad for you. Yes the four door is the same But.... The tailamp panels are the most miserable to have chrome plated so find the best matched pair that you can. the trunk itself can be repaired, there is plenty of sheet metal under the trim and space on the backside to pull massage and dolly it out. I would use the insurance money that would buy and ship a deck lid to pay for and and rechrome a set of taillight panels

Is the tail light housing bent on the trunk, the 1/4 panel or both?

Tell them you expect it put back and just no color coat .. they should pay for the damage. What company are you with? A classic one or regular?

@ tallhair. I'm with USAA. I do have comprehensive on the car and was told, since it was a hit and run that it would be covered, but we'll see. I'm not even sure it was hit by a car! It could have been a bicycle. I know it wasn't there yesterday afternoon, but this morning it was.

Henry,..Sure I can fix it, but it's just the point that both parts had no damage. Just more work for me that is unnecessary. BUT,..if they don't cover it, then I have to fix it. I just sucks! The weather is getting nice here and I was going to finish the prep work on the trunk to get it one step closer to paint. One step forward, two steps back and no funds really that I can spend right now. Wife is out of work due to an injury, so money is tight,...real tight.

I really need a garage to put the car in! Living in a Townhouse community is terrible to own a Classic car.

It'll work out, just frustrating like you said. Either way, I'll get it back together. Hoping to hear from the insurance adjuster tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about the damage.It's hard to get anything done when your on a tight budget.Luckily the damage was only minor and if all works out you can get a replacement tail light thru your insurance company and fix the trunk lid yourself.You may even have some $$$ left over from the insurance company if they will cover the cost of a used trunk lid,so you might be able to put that towards other parts that are needed.It just sucks when someone damages something that you just spent your time fixing.Nobody likes doing the job twice!

Thanks guys! I feel a little better today, but still upset at what happened. I'm just hoping the insurance company takes care of it. If not, time to get out to the car, pull the tail light assembly and see how bad the trunk is. Something else I noticed after looking at it a little more. I was paying attention to the hit side and not looking at the other side. Even if I push down on this side it doesn't go back into position.
Jeez WTF..!!
