The rear axle pictured is an 8-1/4".

The early 8-1/4" axle had a threaded filler plug on the upper right of the differential casting.

This plug location was used from the initial 1969 8-1/4" axle until the late 1976 8-1/4" axles. In late 1976, the threaded filler plug for the 8-1/4" axle was relocated to a new cover using a rubber filler plug.

Thank you I found the plug what should I use to get it loose im trying a adjustable and can't break it loose

When you get the plug out, fill it with 80-90 W oil until it runs out the filler hole. You're done unless you want to fix the leaks first. Pinion seal is leaking for sure.

There is a manual suction device to remove the existing rear axle lube. Hand-held and operated. Every service station had one, back then. That way, no need to remove the rear cover, unless you want to.

In addition to fluid removal from differentials as well as manual transmissions, the suction gun is also good for filling them. It's much easier to maneuver and get in among the exhaust, lines, etc. than a squeeze bottle, or jug and funnel.

Lincoln and Plews make good suction guns.

Get a 5/8" SQUARE socket, and lay that on w a breaker bar if its tough. Be sure to measure the thing first. I suppose it could be an 11/16" square also, but I suspect its a 5/8".
