My 67 Dodge Monaco is on Craigslist. Someone has enquired about the car and made an offer. I have not yet accepted or refused their offer. I asked if they wanted to take it for a test drive. That's when they told me they live in Holland.

If one was to sell car to a foreign buyer what's the best way to go about it? Or should I politely say no thanks? Some folks here sold overseas. How about some advice about how to proceed?

Hi Glenn , i bought a few cars in the USA .........
I Always payed the cars from my bank account to the sellers bank account.
Some sellers didn,t want to give the account number because they think they have to do with Nigerians i gues.
You can go to the bank and asked for a new blanco bank account number if you don,t trust the buyer.

Do you have the buyers email adres and name / tel number ?
I can check it out for you....

You could accept their offer and search for a shipping company that handles overseas car shipments.

This happens everyday so would be easy with the right shipper, shouldn't be too difficult to find one.

Best wishes with your sale.

If your buyer has purchased cars from the U.S. before then they likely will make all their own arrangements. They may ask you to deliver to a local exporter or possibly an auto auction site, as they sometimes will facilitate these types of transactions. Make sure that the original title does not leave your possession until you have funds. They may have a banking relationship in the US and if so you can use a Sight Draft through your bank to ensure payment. You give the bank your title and the amount due, they then act as the fiduciary to ensure everyone gets what they want.

Thanks for info so far!

The buyer contacted me thru Craigslist email service so at this point no email address or phone number. He did say he was from Holland and his name was Martin. That's not you is it?

Well maybe he didn't put 2 and 2 together. No wrong intended. Might just not have seen my add in the 'C Body For sale' section.

Craigslist? Overseas buyer?
Bank transfer. 7 days to clear. Then tell him come get it. Nothing less. Period.
I give it a 5% chance of of consummating.

I sent a email to my prospective buyer, a Martin from Holland, asking him if he's member of FCBO? Am trying to see if this Martin is the same Martin as '69monaco' here .

Glenn

Morning , no it wasn,t me...........
If it was a 69 in the same condition i would buy it.........nice car anyway!!

I have bought several cars from USA. In the beginning I was trying to buy cars direct from sellers. It was pretty tricky...lack of trust on both sides. After that I found several Finnish people who lives over there and are doing car business. They will check the car, take care of all paperwork & money and even take care of shipping car to Finland. I have been very satisfied as well sellers.

Received a reply from the 'Martin' who wants to buy my car. He said he's peeked in on FCBO but is not a member. Am going to check with my bank about setting up a savings account with no balance. So if this is a honest buyer he could wire the money to that 'empty' account. If someone is trying to rip me off, then when I give them the account number, to have funds wired to, they'll find an account with zero $.
Am proceeding very cautiously.
