Seriously im not a robot

But yet, back in the 80's when I was daily driving the 'Cuda I never noticed the 3.91's as causing extreme revs. May notice it more now since I'm slowly becoming an old(er) fart every day.

Listen to us 'ole fartz. 276 or 323 iz where you wanna be with ah 4500lb+ C-Barge. The 355 or even worse, the 391 and you'll be winning the RPM race and buyin' new drive tirez every 12 months. Mama + two kidz, and you will enjoy the comfort and cruising these carz were designed for. My .02 Jer

I have 3.55's in my Polara with a 275/60/14 tire and I'm at 2800-3000 rpm at 70mph. I have 3.23's in the Dart. The Polara came with the gears already installed and I don't do a ton of highway driving so they work for me. The 3.23's will be better for driving longer distances and better all around cruising. I don't mind the 3.55's but it does limit the top end.

My 440 has 3:23 with a locking diff. I have a little higher speed torque converter, don't know for sure as it was from a 383 B-body. I suspect about a 2300 lockup. The car loves 70 mph on the highway, will run that all day long. I wouldn't go any higher than 3:23.

Because they are likely to be enjoyed for what they are, not second-choice hot rods with floor-shifting-reverse valve bodies and 3.91 gears. With a few discrete tweaks that car can run high 14s/low 15s without giving up any streetabilty. If you want to go faster, it can be done but a floor shifter will have nothing to do with it, and there are better places to start. Seriously who just tears open an engine without any diagnostics to determine why "it isn't burning rubber?"

Wheels are done

Well my father in law did. But yes im putting a floor shifter and yes im going to put 550-600 hp in a 4k lb car. Why? Because its my car and one of 6 cars i have at that. Because 14s or 15s isnt fast. But dont act like im stupid because i want a floor shifter to go with my manual valve body. This car is a toy and yes i plan on multiple aeta of tires a year on it.

I respectfully disagree ....my thoughts went in many directions on your statement then I realized it seems like so did yours in the statement. ...

That's ok, I didn't necessarily think my comments would be well received. Perhaps I've just seen this episode enough times to know how it ends:

1966 Chrysler Newport Roller with Newer Cragar SS Rims - $995 (TROY)

...I'm a jaded old man but I've given my $.02, made my prediction and I'm moving on. Peace be with you.

Hmm i was thinking 3.55 was the high side of what i wanted. If i can run 65 without screaming ill be happy but u want to get up and move out quickl6

Running 65 mph out on the road in today's traffic. . . Yer gonna get run over by everyone, because they are all running 80. Go with the 3.23.

Just a guess but I think that is what has some C-body devotees a tad upset about..
Ha well its a 50 y/o car. I plan to make it a pretty stout cruiser that my family can take out to cruises and ice cream runs. Thats a toy. My wife wont be parking her tahoe and my ram will still be the commuter for me. My daughters favorite toy is the 27t ive had since i was 15. I take it out and hold it to floor and bring it back and park it. Daughter only gets neighborhood cruises in this one.

I am liking this page but catching flack because of a shifter seems silly. And god forbid i add performance to an engine while its out for a rebuild. Do i do a build thread or not?

I was stationed in Europe for over 15 years......

Really doesn't matter what gear those classics have. Most Europeans drive them like they are 90 year old geezers and don't even drive the speed limit. Most of the time driving like they are in a parade....

Like you say, it's your car, build what you want. I do really hope you finish it, and if/when you sell it don't expect that because you have two years and 20K into it that it's now worth 30K. Realize that most of the market on these is when they're still "as built" so don't expect to get out what you put in. Mine aren't factory original either, although most of the mods have been to options that 'could' have been had from the factory. This is a hobby and is supposed to be somewhat fun, at least some of the time.

Oh, and by all means do a build thread, but put on your flame suit when you post.

Easy Joekey, We're all friendz here including you. I seem to remember that you ask? For one thing, you never mentioned the '27 T bucket. My question now iz: HOW MANY TIRE SMOKERZ DO YOU NEED? We can all make 4500lb+ craz faster and better but at what cost, for what purpose, and to what end? Guyz that drive new 'Stang ownerz have there own unique set of issuez starting with just what they're driving, and I don't hate 'um, I've owned 3 starting with a '64 1/2 when new. Not so with any C-Body on the planet. Make it look good and ride good, and enjoy it with your whole family! I stick by what I said, Jer

Let me also say that the Europeans also have a few places to drag race. I don't ever remember seeing a C-Body. I would sure as heck would of like to see Hemi Fury on the track.
