Seriously im not a robot

For the most part everyone respects what anyone does to their car. We do have a couple of purists that believe all cars should stay 100% original and that is OK too. The one thing that you will have to get use to here is that a majority of people here will say exactly what is on their minds....sometimes it may be critical and is not what you want to hear. No one tries to be mean or insulting (most of the time).

I can tell you that if you start talking about putting 22's and making a clown car out of it....you'll probably hear it from most of us.

Ha no big wheels for this guy. The t bucket was actually my first car. My grandfather built it in the 70s and him and i put a new engine in it after the original was knocking. He then handed the car over as his new hips wouldnt cooperate on getting in the car anymore. The newyorker im hoping will be done under a year and approximately 7kish into the update. And ya i realize it will only be worth 4 when done. But one thing is certain. When i start a project i dont stop until its done. I will post up on what im doing trying to save the origonality that makes this car so cool while updating to better brakes,a/c,tires and triple the horsepower with a shifter that makes it fun

Ha well its a 50 y/o car. I plan to make it a pretty stout cruiser that my family can take out to cruises and ice cream runs. Thats a toy. My wife wont be parking her tahoe and my ram will still be the commuter for me. My daughters favorite toy is the 27t ive had since i was 15. I take it out and hold it to floor and bring it back and park it. Daughter only gets neighborhood cruises in this one.

I am liking this page but catching flack because of a shifter seems silly. And god forbid i add performance to an engine while its out for a rebuild. Do i do a build thread or not?
Hell yeah do a build thread. Your not ruining a super special rare car, have a little fun. My car has a bigger engine, cam, headers, built trans, manual valve body, biggest tires I can fit, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm not selling the car so I don't care about going back to stock. Just don't butcher the car for some stupid thing, whatever it may be. I'll add buckets and a console, but they are factory options that the car could have came with. I like seeing a C body that performs. I'd never guess a mild street terror in your 4 door, but it sure would be cool.

Don't mind the purists, they have their place, and they will let you know what they think, but they're all good. Stan (commando1) used to scare me a little, but he must have gotten his script refilled, he's mellower now!

My personal feeling as a result of attempting to make a really nice cruiser into a bruiser is this:
Built a monstrosity of a 440, a reverse manual valve body 727, a sure grip 373 and a host of susp mods to keep it "straight" and put everything on the pavement (which i never actually succeeded at). All that left me with a car that was, to say the least, uncomfortable...
It was reliable, I'll say that, but it was no longer a joy to drive. It was MAYBE 6 months before that diff was on a shelf, the susp was dialed back to that nice, sofa like C ride and if I'd had the time with it, that valve body would have been shelved as well. When I reflect on that car, it's never for it's rather disappointing 1/4 mi times... in fact, it's not even for the BB I built and stuffed into it (though the build itself was a ton of fun). It's for 75 MPH on a straight farm road in the dead of summer with the windows down. When I look back, I bought her for 2500 bucks and it easily could have ended there ..
No one could have stopped be from building what I did .. lots tried. My only advice is to build what you want but keep the O.E. handy and don't do anything you can't reverse.

... or do .. it's your car. Have fun! Best of luck with the build, man, I look forward to seeing it!

Even the derby guys didn't want my 78 NYB when I got it. LOL.

It's been a work in progress for a lot of years and has come a long way so far. It's far from being original...

I'm hoping to get the rest of the paint done this year (front half). I had A LOT of rust repair done and new paint on the back half and a new vinyl top.

I'm gathering parts to build a 451 stroker motor.

So my 78 NYB is far from original....

I went with 3.23 and will admit it's nice on the highway, but a lower ratio would have better suited the small block engine build. Right now first gear is too tall for my liking I can drive around our small town and barely get into second. 60 on the 2 lane roads suits me fine and if I need to make time on the big slab it probably won't be in the Fury anyway. Thinking 3.91 and overdrive would be ideal.

WOW! Look at the suicide front end on that T-Bucket. That is so cool, and the fact that its the car you and your grandfather put togehter is a mighty wonderful thing.

Joebot,
Your car just looks like it would be a great road trip car. I had 3.23s in a few cars, they are my personal favorite gear choice. Like Dave and others said, you aren't going to see squat difference in a 1/4 mile, VS the comfort of rolling out at a 70-75 mph cruise. I want to do a build like that next.

That whale will never be fast without a severe diet, but with an easy 440 build of 450-500 hp and tons of torque, you could throw all your robot friends in and cruise to a car show, and still smoke some new muscle at stop lights.

Bottom line is it's your car, looking forward to seeing your vision of it come to life.

Sure is a sweet starting point, I totally have interior envy!!

I think by now you've figured out that we share our thoughts and opinions very freely around here. If and when you get stumped with something the help flows just as freely though. With that said a lathery ribbing often accompanies the help or opinion.

Enjoy the NYer and let us enjoy it some with you. Your little gal looks to be right in the midst of mine, by summers end they will be 3, 5, 7, and 9. Nothing like a car the family can enjoy with you.

Still collecting parts. Now i have most of my engine parts except rods, pistons, cam. Plan to let the machine shop handle that. Got wheels and tires put on today. Timing cover, motor mounts, oil pan, and brackets and pulleys back from powdercoat. Ordered polished ceramic coat tti headers yesterday. Plan to start on the front brakes this weekend and ordering all the rear brake parts as well.
