I bought this electronic conversion with a new distributor conversion a decade ago and it has been sitting on my shelf until yesterday. I started looking for electrical hook up advice and see this set up is not at all popular.

Should I just stop and start over and not even bother? If so what do you guys recommend?

Now they are not great. Basically a Mopar Knockoff. The newer ecu's are junk. Really depends which one you have? Most have a really fast curve in them.

As to chunking it all in the trash and starting over, maybe not do that. Rather, as most of the issues are with the ECUs, add different-source ECU and electronic internal to the distributor? Rather than "hot rod" brands, just solid replacements from known-good sources (as @halifaxhops)? ALSO checking the integrity of any connectors in the wiring harnesses, too, possibly adding a dab of high-nickel solder at each one to ensure better long-term connections?

THEN, possibly at the 50K mile point, you could assess the condition of the distributor shaft bushings and proceed from there?

YOUR judgment call on these things.

Just some thoughts,
