Snowflake ???

I personally think any of you that work for companies with a pension plan, and no choice health plan are on a sort of welfare system, instead of being provided by Uncle Sam it's provided by XYZ co.. Which is not a bad thing, BUT companies fail, if you have the option to not participate and self direct or a 401k plan, those are much better options, it's mine to roll into a IRA when I choose to leave not being stuck in a job at just under a vested amount. To each their own.
BTW don't like paying taxes and FICA payments, easy, quit your job start your own business and you are not "forced" to pay anything, or keeping working for the "man" and he will snatch it before you even see it.

If you're getting employer benefits as part of your compensation, it's in lieu of higher pay (in theory). But a major difference is no one is forced to purchase goods or services from a private company. Until the advent of Obamacare, when all citizens not covered by an employers were forced to purchase a product... just for the ability to preserve their freedom. That's a very big difference.

And...

Also note that your employer pays half of the FICA tax due, while you as a self-employed individualmust pay the entire amount of Social Security/Medicare on your self-employment income.

So self-employed pay twice the typical tax amount.

Unless you want to cheat uncle Sam, in which case all bets are off. Just remember Al Capone never did time for anything but taxes.

Curiosity finally got the better of me and I decided to read this thread to figure out what all this "snowflake" talk was about.
Well it turns out we are surrounded and there are figurative snowstorms blowing all around the world. Today, right here we even have the real stuff blowing around while the virtual storms blast around our upcoming city elections. :p

I did a little digging and came up with this general definition:

Snowflake - “You are not special. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are the same organic and decaying matter as everyone else.”
Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club 1996:

But then there is this:

So if the right are calling the left snowflakes for being liberal, and the left are calling the right snowflakes for expressing offence, and the old are calling the young snowflakes for being too thin-skinned, and the young are pointing out that the older generation seem to be the most offended by what they’re doing, then the only winner is the phrase itself. It’s particularly effective given that there’s really no comeback to it: in calling someone a snowflake, you are not just shutting down their opinion, but telling them off for being offended that you are doing so. And if you, the snowflake, are offended, you are simply proving that you’re a snowflake. It’s a handcuff of an insult and nobody has the key.

So it would appear we are all snowflakes in someone's eyes. So be it, I've been called worse!

You don't have to buy it, but you will give Uncle Sam some money at tax time for when he has to bail your dumb *** out for not having some protection from catastrophic health care bill.

I believe it is called creative accounting. If I want to pay less taxes I can just go out and buy another truck or a new trailer, all of which make my life easier and save on my taxes.
The problem you as employees have is everything is written down for you and you have no write offs.

Try not giving uncle Sam his "penalty" (which has escalated from 1% to 2.5% of your income, or from $95 to $695 per person, whichever is greater) and see how long until you're in jail. Visit Wesley Snipes while you're there. Oh yeah, the penalty will continue to escalate each year.

As for deductions, many people don't itemize (I do). Although I am an employee, I also have an LLC so I also get write offs.

So you think that the govt penalizing you for not being financially responsible which they/we have to pick up the tab when you fall and break your leg is a bad idea. Guess it is a bad idea to ticket (should be worse) someone without car insurance hits one of your cars.
Wesley Snipes did not pay his taxes, tax evasion. I do not evade my taxes but I certainly do things to make them less. Apparently you do also, don't get upset with me because I made my whole livelihood a tax write off.
No I do not think that Obamacare is the answer but letting the insurance companies run it was not working if you think the system was working prior to Obamacare you lead a charmed life. Good for you, for the rest of us to be cast out of a chance to protect yourself from financial ruin like some lowlife 4th class citizen in a country as great as the U.S. is ****** up. I'm not taking about a hand out just straight denial because of a bump on my spine.
The moment the insurance companies get to run amuck again. I will not own anything anymore and will be signing up for assistance. Then bash away at me because I will be the system.

C'mon Dave, stop talking sense once again on this site. Its a waste of time. All you get in return is being called a socialist, communist, fool or whatever, and then some go into page long rants or whatever that impugn you with stupid motives and carry on a senseless diatribe that isn't worth reading. Or some less clever just give you red Xs for your sensibility. Its like trying to reason with their idol.

Were do you guys come up with this stuff? A snowBIRD is someone from the north that goes SOUTH for the winter. A snowFLAKE is a southener that goes NORTH for the summer. Snowbirds escape the snow. Snowflakes escape the heat. That my story and I'm stickin' to it.

I like it. I'll take it.

Because of them coming?

Make nice, some ol' Florida grouch thought that about you years ago...

OK here's my favorite version of a Snowbird song. Was done years ago by a then local DJ.

Until we correct the huge imbalance in income inequality in this country, nothing will work well.

How do you propose to do that unless you devalue individual ability?

How do you propose to eliminate the variance in humans that have existed since we first stood upright?

What makes us think that in today's society that we can accomplish this when generations of ancestors failed to do so? What arrogance do we possess they didn't?
