Agreed. It was posed by an upper level management marketing type idiot who didn't have a clue about the manufacturing process.
Some speculation here.... Since GM was using lacquer paint back then, the paint would be dry before assembly. So it wouldn't be part of the process (obviously).
It makes me wonder if it was after touch up of the finished car. They do inspect and pull cars off the line to repair flaws in paint .

Is that a fact or a guess.
While I wasn’t in the business in 57, the only place I’ve ever seen a fully assembled vehicle in an oven is in final repair. This looks like an IR oven with some agitation air ducts down the sides and top. Every plant has a final repair paint line. Usually just a forced air oven but have seen IR lamps.
