I deliberately didn't watch/hear it. I'll hear enough about it tomorrow. I'm glad many of y'all liked it. Various sections of it were written by his aides and advisors (including Gen. Mattis), as was reported this afternoon. I spent my time online and in these forums.
Anybody notice the large sell-off in the stock market yesterday and today? Related to interest rates and bond prices.
Think about what it takes to move vehicle assembly plants around. It doesn't happen quickly or over-night. The move of more truck plant capacity into the USA has been in process for many months, and under consideration for much longer than that . . . like when Chrysler 200 production was ceased in MI.
I'm still waiting for "trickle down" to allegedly work again. Plus see how much of The National Debt really gets paid down by increased economic activity. And for "the trickle" to become "a flow".
The best "trickle down" is "profit sharing" bonuses. LIke what Chrysler did with their workers when the LH cars and such were selling better than anybody ever expected. As were other Chrysler vehicles, too. Each Chrysler worker got about $10K one year in the middle 1990s, as GM was closing plants and Ford was paying moving expenses for workers to move to TN to build Ford diesel pickups. With Chrysler's recent profits, that spigot is open again, and almost as wide. A great example for other companies to follow, if they'll let lose of the money and not keep it for corporate officer bonuses and such.
All of this money which companies are suddenly letting lose of, that didn't come from any immediate tax reductions, but from the accumulation they've been sitting on for about 5+ years, which they wouldn't spend for various reasons. What it'll be replaced with has yet to happen. It's all a big Public Relations play by them, that makes some politicians smile and take credit for. In other words, they could have done it several years ago to move the economy even further forward, but didn't do it.
Remember too, that Ronald Reagan DID raise taxes later in his term, when it was realized that tax cuts were decreasing tax revenues too much.
I'm not too keen on all of the marches and protests which have been taking place over the past year. Makes the USA look more like a Third World Country. Nor do I like the "take a knee" of sports players. BUT as long as the messages which all of those actions are about seem to fall on deaf ears in many parts of this nation (especially in W, D.C., it's their choice to keep doing it peacefully until they see results from it (other than disdain for what they're doing). In the business world, sellers listen to their customers . . . if they don't, they sell less of what they have to sell. In politics, that orientation doesn't seem to be applicable! If a car dealer had the consistently low "customer satisfaction ratings" which our elected politicians seem to have, the manufacturers would be finding another dealer to take that dealership over or pull the franchise (as Chrysler MID was known to do). In politics, they seem to get re-elected the next time. Lots of things still need to change, as "the swamp" is now a more exclusive gated community.
Enjoy!
