Suspension banging

In ‘67 the rear of the torsion bars are mounted into an assembly which is separated from the torsion bar crossmember by a pair of isolators that are like engine mounts. Mine aren’t available in the aftermarket so I had to have them rebuilt. Mine weren’t totally shot but the rebuilt ones definitely tightened things up.

Ya beat me to it Matt:thumbsup:

Exact same thing on my 67'. Going around a corner it would clunk. Drove me nuts... I checked EVERYTHING, then discovered the torsion bar mount on the one side was shot.
Oh and nothing wrong with folks chiming in with ideas... much rather have had it been something as simple as a top shock bushing!
Sometimes your too close to the forest to see the trees, and miss the simple things

Here's a picture of the extra crossmember that the isolator bushings mount to.

You can see both rubber bushings have split into two parts.

Haven't sent the bushings out to be rebuilt yet, so in the meantime I fabbed up solid mounts out of some scrap.

Instead of studs, bolts and nuts should make assembly easier

I left things a bit loose until it was up in place.

Solid mounts, why not?

From what I've gathered, my understanding is that Imperials 67-73 employed them. Maybe a 73 B body also if I remember correctly.

Indeed, 73 and up Bbody and Rbody to 81 used the isolated Kframe and torsion anchor cross member. When I rebuilt the entire front suspension on my 74 BBody, I had solid bushings made.

The B body did not have torsion bar isolators like the 67-73 Imperial (different style) so there is no parts interchange there...these are an "Imperial thing".

How does it ride with the solid mounts?
