For 50 years, from 1941 to 1991, Bob Hope did USO shows wherever the troops were. Just after Christmas 1974, I was in boot camp at Lackland AFB. One day, instead of regular training and drill, we assembled and the TIs had us loading onto buses. I can’t say how many of us went or how many buses, but it was a lot. We ended up at a large auditorium (I don’t remember the name) in San Antonio to see a real Bob Hope USO show. The place was packed, and not just with us. The San Antonio area was home to a combination of 4 or 5 Army and Air Force bases. Of course, the show was great and he was a riot. We gave him deafening applause and cheered like crazy. It was just so cool. Thanks for the memories, Bob.

Bob Hope came to Middle East during the Gulf War. He was getting older and slower but he still came to see us. It was a little too dangerous in my area for him to visit but he did visit the REMF's at poolside.

He may have been born in England, but he was a great American. I read that in 1999, he was named an honorary member of the US Armed Forces.

We went and saw Midway today “after” work. It was really good, a couple nit picks aside it was a great movie to see on Vet’s Day.
