What are these holes for

Looking at my inventory of 8.75 rears I noticed that all of them have 3 holes in the spring perch. I know the center hole is the one used for the center bolt for the leaf springs but why the other two.

A semi-educated guess is they are indexing holes for when the pads are welded in place.

They also add strength! I agree that they are likely to be jig holes.

Some other models use spacers too - they might help index those.
