My dad had those on his 1958 300D. They go from under the lug nut threw the hubcaps. So no one can steel the hubcaps

Hubcap locks. Fairly commonly seen in my youth while living in Queens, NY.

I recall these coming with factory wire wheel covers in the day, to prevent theft.

I'll bet the hubcap was toast if it came off while driving and made a hell of a racket

I had one come off once and backtracked and located it. Still in very good shape
