ok my property is surrounded by woods. So I have all kinds of kritters come up. From Coyotes to turtles to ground hogs & birds that dig holes & nest right in the ground. These are on one end of a natural oval shaped mound of pine trees. Near the back of my property. I only see these on the south corner nearest the woods. Must be 40 of them. I cover them up & a few days later there are back. I stick pine conbs in them & something removed the pine comb. Different sizes , but roughly the size of a golf ball.
I googled a Vole. That could very well be what's doing that. The cat brings me one of those every now & then. And she like to go out to that mound & dig around.
Voles. They suck, and come out of the forest to clearings to eat roots. They are long, black, with big teeth, and can't see. I poison them every spring. after a couple years, they are about done. But they are very destructive.
I've got holes like that in my yard. Chipmunks are the culprit. Now that the weather is warmer and the kids are playing in the yard the chipmunks are seen less.
Well the cat brings mice, Voles & Moles up to the house, but so far no chipmunks. So I'm going to say Voles. So what should I do. Poison that's safe for cats?
If it's voles, get a 5 gallon bucket and turn it upside down with a mouse trap with peanut butter on the trap under the bucket over one of the holes. Put a rock on the bucket to keep critters out of the traps that you don't want in them. You'll catch as many as there are in your yard.
