I have this 440 block with a casting date 1-7-77, however the casting number 2536430 is for 69-72? Also the pad is stamped with a G(1971). I believe it's a 71 with a wrong date cast in.

Strange. A 1977 cast block would have a different casting number and 440 cast right after it.

Counterfeit? Warranty?? Can't believe they would restamp a warranty block tho

Check the width of the motor mount mounting ears, if it has the wider ears it is a '77 block.

Thanks Dave, I forgot about that difference. It's the same dimension as other blocks with same casting numbers.

I have seen a 340 warranty engine dated 77 Back then cars had a 5 year 50,000 mile warranty. Kim

Just a foundry mistake. If everything else has it as a '71 assembly and an early (Jan) casting date my money's on the foundry just screwed up.
