car show pics from Dresden

Cars ("Wagen") in which you live (wohn). Which is what they are :)

The Dutch name (spelled "caravan") may come from the equivalent French (spelled "caravane" and also called a "roulotte") or, further afield, they both may trace back to a Central Asian word.

PS: confusingly (or not), in Dutch a kampeerwagen is self-propelled (unlike a caravan).

A generic German name for "trailer" is anhanger. A travel trailer is reiseanhanger, (literal translation) for "camping trailer", IIRC. Wohnwagen, too, as mentioned.

some people call them caravan, too so a Wohnwagen (no engine!) is the same as a caravan

Is is common practice to leave the hoods down?

(I wouldn't like that. At all. Nope...)

yes, it is common on nearly all kind of shows, no matter if a cruise in, a regular show or a party weekend (like this one).
So you have to ask the owner if he opens the hood so you can take a picture of the fender tag:)
