I'm wondering what others thoughts are here as I'm not seeing ANYONE discuss the harsh reality thats headed our way unless folks step up - OK THIS ISN'T POLITICAL at this point so somehow let's keep it that way or move the thread to?

I'll start brewing my own. I won't see it in my lifetime. Ethanol plants are going full speed ahead here.

So here's my thought, only electric vehicles by law allowed on the roadways....

To many rich oil companies and Sultans for that to happen in my lifetime. Who do you think is benefiting from the high gas prices besides the guys that bought futures last year for negative numbers. Not you, I or the gov.
Likely won’t/can’t happen overnight as the infrastructure currently cannot support this notification. Changes over time? Most likely. If you look at American history and ingenuity there will be adaptations. I am not going to lose any sleep over the all or nothing theory.

All the discussion I’ve heard about it is pertaining to all new vehicles sold to be electric by some date at least a dozen years off.
People will be driving their gasoline engines for at least another dozen years after that so by my math you’ll be able to pump gas for at least the next 25 years conservatively.

Three oil companies in the US made over $300B last year, they won't let that go away. Plastics are made from the leftovers of oil production, and even though we have plastic everywhere, that's not the money maker. Diesel isn't going away anytime soon.

I can see governments doing things to lessen the gas usage, but until all ICE cars are basically off the roads, we will be able to drive our cars, so long as we can afford to fill the tank.

Ethanol is huge in the upper Midwest, there's at least four plants within a 60 mile radius of me, probably more if I looked a little bit. Converting my cars to E85 wouldn't be hard to do, then I can run corn juice til I'm dead.

Well, ahem, I work for "big oil".. a refinery in Toledo. Oil isn't going anywhere soon because EVERYTHING you touch ,(plastics, chemicals, even Vaseline,) is made from oil, so as gasoline is a byproduct of oil, it's not going away either. Now they may try to legislate it, but until something is as cheap, reliable, and convenient, we'll have gas. As stated above, lots of money at stake.
Just my opinion, of course....

I'm gonna guess there's enough opposition to that idea...things would get physical

My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the Turbine Freight
To far outside the Wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits

Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For fifty odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream

I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant Black Polara
From a better vanished time
I fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime

Wind
In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge...

Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware

Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase

Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I've got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside

No.

I agree that fossil fuel will be around for quite a while. The price could be the wildcard.
It is anyones guess what is coming in the future.
I wont be buying any expensive cars as a investment (not that I have any now) but It will be buisnes as usual with the cars that I have.
Drive them as often as I can and enjoy.
