Deletion of posts, what's the point of doing this??

Second, if the thread is clean, meaning just the ad and relevant questions, then someone actually looking to buy something has an easier time.
This might be the crux of the matter, how is determined if a comment is relevant? Obviously it's up to the admins, but what some members might find relevant the admins might not so the comment gets deleted. That way it's unclear what is and what is not allowed, even more so if it differs among admins.

It might help to further specify what is and what isn't allowed because right now it's a bit of a mystery, at least for me.

But it's just an opinion, yours may vary

Its pretty simple actually.. If your asking about the item for sale, then its fine. if it's anything else, its not.

Example...
"How much is shipping to xyz?"
"Does this fit my car?"
"Do you know the part number?"
"Do you have photos of the other side?"

Example of not allowed... (these are real posts we've deleted)
Hahahahahahahahahaha
Funny how u charge double the value
Great car , good luck on your sale
Nice car, very reasonably priced, should sell fast, good luck!
I see the definition of "super clean" has changed since last I logged on.
Yea he’s a real jerk. I am glad I didn’t buy anything from him. The dude is not at all someone I want to do business with.
"Clean up great ". No mention or rust. **** you

I have an even better one. Set it up so the original poster can "Allow", or "Not allow" comment on the post.

This.

Perhaps @Joeychgo might make it three options: "Allow all comments", "Disallow all comments", and "Allow mods to moderate comments"?

Are those deleted posts from here? Or from your other forums? The nasty comments I mean.

I haven't seen that type of comment here... although I admit I don't read everything.

I took those from several of the sites actually. You also have to consider that I like to try to keep the rules the same across the sites as much as I can for consistency.

That doesn't keep the threads clean first of all, and second, it doesn't stop fights, which can easily happen when negative comments come into play. And third, it isn't an option in the software.

How about this... If your not interested in buying the part -- then you don't need to comment in the thread. Why is that such a problem? Probably 99% of the commentary thats gets removed is from people who have no intention to buy the part.

That flys for a political thread too. We had an anything flys rule years ago. We policed ourselves if anything got out of hand. About a year or two ago somebody or more than 1 person came crying to you and bang the political thread is gone. Joey, some time has passed, do you think we can try to have a political thread section? If that kind of commentary upsets you.....don't open that damn thread and then cry to a Mod. I'm curious to hear from my friends on FCBO what they think about current events, future elections and candidates. I can tolerate opinions from both parties without being offended. What do you say Joey? Can we be a test mule for a political thread???

Among friends, I don't talk about politics or religion. . .

I remember the time, you, Michel, Wyatt, and myself got our hands slapped for commenting on a post from Tim.
I’ve been deleted a couple of times, mostly ignorance on my part, but you still get the feeling of being dissed. I do remember the early days where anything goes, it was the main attraction of this site. I do notice a lot of bland discourse now that doesn’t foster much conversation. It was always the for sale threads where I learned the most from commentary.

I'm not speaking for Joey, but I know he has political threads at other forums. For example, the FABO has a "News and Politics" section that you have to join.

Do they work? Well, I don't discuss politics (or religion) as a rule, so I don't know for sure. Considering FABO, I do believe that there has been some hard feelings that started in the politics section and overlap into everywhere else.

Here's what I see the problem is... We have a lot of guys that can discuss politics in a civil way. No issues, come away still being friends etc. Then we have a few that never grew up. It's just a few, but they ruin it for everyone. From what I've seen with @Joeychgo, he was all set to make a political section here when a couple guys started their nonsense and he realized it was going to be a PITA to moderate and the fallout onto the rest of the forum.

Did I get that right Joey?

So here we are.... I had to hit the "show ignored content" to see all the comments. I see we have a bunch of us being civil and talking about an issue, and a perfect example of why Joey doesn't want to do it. Have I got that right too?

Pretty much.

Honestly, here is how I see things. Most members here are great. But there are a handful who act like spoiled children. They don't care if there is a rule, or if the rule is there for good reason, they just want what they want and to hell with anything else. And when they dont get what they want, they throw a tantrum and call staff names and make snide comments and stuff like that. Makes it hard to believe they would behave well in a politics forum as they purport.

When Joey allows a political section on FCBO. Those individuals causing undue problems get ONE warning and then a permanent ban. They are not contributing anything significant to the forum anyways. And.....I think most of them have never owned a Mopar. The problem people never post a picture of their cars!!!

(Proposed solution: Allow comments, Disallow comments, Let mods moderate comments)

Back to "for sale" commenting. I was talking about cars, not parts. Regardless, I think that I see where you are coming from. Couple of things, though:

Glass is half-empty: the "For Sale" sub-forum is where I, like many others, learned a ton about cars. Some of the allegedly "irrelevant" chatter that used to take place there was critical to that learning, and from a commercial perspective it brought traffic to the site. I get that there may be a trade-off with discouraging some folks to post ads lest their cars get trashed, but... One really was able to learn about the C-body marketplace, Mopar history, and the cars being sold through those meandering exchanges -- and there was (with one caveat below) no better way to motivate those exchanges than to do so amid the excitement of cars being put up for sale.

Glass is half-full: the "Cars for Sale on Other Sites" sub-forum is a truly welcome addition to the site, and I am really glad that you have added it. IMHO, in and of itself it cannot substitute fully for what used to be discussed on the "For Sale" sub-forum -- but the fact that discussions are is still allowed to be much more free-flowing is a welcome feature.
