If you’re not familiar with my car, its a 1970 Fury I that I recently rescued. It been sitting since 1985 in a garage and is 90% original with low miles and most of its original parts.
The issue is that the right turn signal when applied seems to light up the parking light side of the circuit and doesn’t flash. I cleaned up the sockets and installed new 1157 bulbs which didn’t help. The parking lights all work as they should. Also, the brake lights do not work but, that is probably unrelated. Or is it? I haven’t investigated it further than changing the bulbs. Any thoughts? Am I missing something obvious? Thanks in advance.

Here’s a video taken when the turn signal issue was discovered.

Grounds to the tail lights would be the first thing I would check. A couple of lengths of wire with some alligator clips would be your friend here.

4 ways do anything or haven't tried them? Check the brake light switch also since you say they don't work

One side of the 1157 is the "running lights", with the other side being the "stop lights" and "turn signal flash" lights. Which means the brake lights and turn signal lights all go through the turn signal switch.

They acted kind of weird at first. Only rear worked. Then the front came on.
It’s strange to me that the parking light filament lights up instead of the brake light when the signal is applied. Like the bulb is in backwards..but it’s not. The indicator lights up on the dash for what it’s worth.
I suspect the brake light switch for those lights since the fuse is good. But didn’t know if the two issues could be related even though they do power the same light.

I know, and I don’t like the thoughts of digging into the steering column!

I guess a simple way of putting it is that when the right turn signal light is applied, the right rear parking light comes on and does not flash. The front right turn signal light comes on but does not flash.
The left works normally front and rear.

This isn't right, like John said check the ground on the socket

I checked the socket with a meter and it’s grounded. I know what you mean though.

Check for power at the brake light switch, if it has it try jumping the switch to see if the brake lights work. The RT side won't though until you get the issue with the turn signal corrected.

Has any of the wiring been disturbed at the socket, spliced, etc...

I also thought where the engine was out and it only had a body ground wire might cause problems but everything else works.

I wouldn’t think so but, that would make sense. The car is very unmolested. I hope it’s something like that and not in the darn column.
I believe I can whoop the brake light issue, they just don’t work period.
This signal has me scratching my head. If the darn brake lights would work it would give some clues as to what’s happening with that right rear though wouldn’t it?

I think even if you get the brake lights working you will still have a issue with the RT side, the turn signal and brake light are the same circuit. Turn signal switch changes it

I agree 100% that fixing the brake lights will not fix the signal. But, if the brake light switch would send power to the brake lights… and the left brake light came on…but, the right parking light came on… then it would be safe to assume that somewhere along the line some wires got messed up!

Ok, we figured it out! And I mean mostly you guys.
In the video I call it right off the bat. Bad bulb/corrosion in the socket.
I only half *** cleaned the socket out the first time. I did check it with a meter and it showed going to ground. But I was probing it with a sharp probe. The socket was actually corroded pretty bad and wasn’t making good contact with the bulb at all. It was so bad I had to lightly hit it with a die grinder to get it cleaned up!
Talking about grounds got me to thinking about it so I ran a wire from the bumper to the brass on the bulb while it was plugged in and in started working. That’s when I investigated the socket better than I did the first time. Thanks for your help guys!
And sorry for my laziness!

Unplug ALL the lamps front and rear (turn/park/stop) then check the housing to ground, if a housing has a bad ground it will find ground the the positive circuit to another bulb.
I'm not an electrician so I can't explain it.

That’s exactly what was going on!

Follow up…I took the brake light switch out, cleaned, tested(good) and re-installed it. No help. While messing around and thinking about it they suddenly started working basically on their own! Go figure. I think everything on the car electrical works now. But i cant check the temperature or gas gauge yet.
