Today, it's washing and detailing the Imperial. I'm participating in the Armed Forces Day Parade next Saturday the 17th. I'll have the Grand Marshal in my car. He's a recent retired USN Captain who was the Commodore of the E-6B TACAMO Wing at Tinker. Should be fun!
We have a pretty fair-sized parade every year It's put on by the Del City Chamber of Commerce and a local credit union.
This is only the third parade for the Imperial, as the other two were Memorial Day and Veterans Day events. I'm rather looking forward to it!

That’s funny.. I had those off when I replaced my springs a yr ago.. never knew what they were for so I put them back on.. Hmmm Who knew.. lol

I called it progress but my wife just said how can it be progress when it doesn’t have wheels now
Installed pertronix ignitor3 and pertronix coil. Cured my cruising throttle stutter. Tonight I go back and dial in the timing. Last thing before Mopars in the park unless I decide to do the brake master culinder upgrade that I have sitting on the shelf ready to go

I changed the original holley carburetor for a new edelbrock avsII 625 cfm carburetor, changed the spark plugs and the oil and oil filter.
I have adjusted the choke, but I still need to fine tune the idle air bleeds, but the car already drives much better. I checked the floats on the new carburetor before installation, but only one needed slight adjustment. I am looking forward to getting the carb fine tuned and dialed in.

Doing a 4-wheel brake job on my Newport. Problem is, I had two cross-threaded nuts, now I have two broken studs. They're out, but now I can't find the correct size for my '71 front disks. Any suggestions?

It was a long winter for me. When the weather did break, there were very few nice days and it seemed like there was always something else going on. After days of rain and 40° weather, we had a nice day, the stars aligned, and I finally got to drive the 300L. Mrs. Big John and I went out for a nice lunch and a short ride.
Tomorrow is the Senior Ball at the local (Marcellus) high school and we'll be doing our usual duty, chauffeuring some kids to the ball, so the car got a good clean up. I've been doing that on and off since it started ~30 years ago. This year is a little special because one of the grand daughters is going to be riding with us. She's a sophomore, but is going to the ball with a friend who's a senior.
We did have a little issue with the garden gnome, but it's been taken care of.

As I mentioned in Friday's post, we attended the annual "Crystal Ball Cruise" at the local high school senior ball last night, having the pleasure of giving a ride to my (sophomore) grand daughter and her friend. I think this was the first time in many years that my car as driven in the rain.
Also in attendance was @march and his wife along with @66/72RAB (pic of his vert). Our table placed 3rd in a trivia contest at the dinner they provide for us.

The Armed Forces Day Parade was yesterday, with amazing conditions - 70°F with very light winds and clear skies. I had Del City's vice mayor and a councilman in the car, with four bins of candy to toss at the kiddies...and the cops, too. The route was roughly one mile. The Imperial ran like a watch. It was the second drive of the year.
I had to replenish the axle gear lube before heading out to the rendezvous point - got to replace both the pinion seal and the diff gasket soon. What line was there puked out onto my shop floor over the Winter. Yay. I managed to hit our local C&C gathering beforehand. A nice, fun day to go topless. At least, until the storm clouds said otherwise.

I did the front shocks today on my '70 300. I did the rears a couple weeks ago. KYB stopped strapping the shocks a while ago, so I used my press to collapse them and some Harbor Freight zip ties.
The old shocks (not gas charged) fought me a bit, and I knew the new ones would be worse, so I decided to separate the upper ball joint and make things easier (in theory). I also slid the calipers off so it didn't stretch the hose. The boots were torn and needed to be replaced anyway. Driver side, no problem. The ball joint on the passenger side gave me a real hard time... In fact I think this was the worst one I ever have done. I was all set to give up when it finally let go.
And no, I didn't back off the torsion bars. Just let the weight of the car on the LCA to hold it.

Grace needed a tune up in a big way.
She developed a slight intermittent misfire.
I replaced the plugs, cap and rotor as all were worn out.
No shame as I drove Grace a lot in 2023 and last summer.
Funny the rotor button was hitting the top of the cap's contacts on the electronic didtributor..
That's Darcy our most recent pet rescue. She likes being in the shop with me.
