Where does this shield go? I can't find a picture (yes, I looked in the FSM and parts book) where it attaches or even if this is the correct piece. It's supposed to be a shield to protect the bulkhead connector and I first thought it went above, but I think that's wrong.

Anybody?? A picture would tell a thousand words here.

One hole snaps over that hinge bolt. The other grabs the pointy plastic stud holding firewall insulation behind the dash.
You know, I looked at the plastic stud and said "no way" would they attach something to that. Ah well....

Thanks!

It just sort of "sets" there, for easy removal and cleaning by the vehicle owner, during their scheduled monthly bulkhead connector checkup.

My hunch is that this was a last minute addition by the engineers after discovering excess water draining to this location.

I have a bolt there rather than a stud. The guys in body shop probably did that. Easy fix, just have to make a hardware run.

It doesn't just "set" there. It is firmly mounted and doesn't come off easily.
I just removed mine in two seconds, blindfolded.

Let me fix this for all concerned:

It doesn't just "set" there. It is firmly mounted and doesn't come fall off, period. But it is easily installed and removed by a members as knowledgeable and experienced as 73Coupe and Big_John.

But, I haven't put mine on yet.... Although it does look pretty easy to install and remove.

I did clean it up and ended up painting it so it looked better. I was going to dig through my pile of rusty bolts for a stud, but other things kept me from dragging the boxes of bolts out.

Yes that sure fixed it, I'm impressed. thanks!

I swapped the bolt for a stud that I procured from my box o' bolts. The plastic was cleaned and a quick coat of black.

It all fits nice now. Seems easy to remove and replace as needed and reasonably secured in place.

Mark this one done!

Now you have to keep cleaning all around it.
If you note the dust on the hinges, you can see how much I clean and detail the engine compartment. When I first bolt something new in, it's generally cleaned up and painted. But it's on its own after that.

I'll probably brush the leaf out by the wiper arm but that's it.

Hood is always down at shows and I drive the car!
