Hey gang it's me again.... So I have a tyranny fluid leak that's coming from what I believe to be the speedometer cable pinion, where it connects up to the transmission housing. I read in the manual that this cable connection can be removed and that if there's tranny fluid leaking in the cable connection area ...that there are a couple of seals that would need replacement. So first, can you guys confirm I've correctly identified the cable in the picture ( attached ) and that it can be removed and seals added. Next, is this procedure difficult and should I expect a lot of tranny fluid to leak out when the cable is removed. Finally, where can I find the new replacement seals for this area ...are they available?

Also the other picture shows what the manual calls the "housing" for the parking lock cable/hose. I think there's some leakage there...is there a gasket that goes there for that housing and where can that be had? Perhaps if I know the actual name for that part/housing I can search for the associated gasket. Thanks as always friends!

Looks like you are working on a cable shift trans....65 or earlier. There was a member.....may have been on FBBO that advertised the multiple seals required. Have to do a search,as i cant remember names. Theres a gasket for that park housing, or you could easily make one.

Tranny shop such as A&A might be best bet, or track down Pat Blais (ebay).

Here's what I think I'm dealing with. it's in the right location back away from the front of the car, about the middle of the vehicle. It shows an inner seal and outer seal.

Ok ..so the speedo cable is done. That is to say I've installed the 2 new seals and hopefully there will be no more tranny fluid leaks from that cable. I'm also changing out the pan seal and filter while I'm in the area and loosing tranny fluid anyway.

This brings me to my other question concerning the park lock cable housing (..the picture of it is in post #1). I was wondering can that housing be taken off with the park lock cable still attached to it? Or do I have to pull out the cable first, then unbolt the housing? I have a gasket for the housing, but the cable going to it has me worried.

Great that you got the two seals and reinstalled the cable. This type of speedometer cable was not self-lubricating from the transmission oil. Periodically, you have to grease the cable, from the transmission up to within six inches of the speedometer unit. There used to be a special grease, available from Chrysler to do the job. Pull the cable out of the housing and lube it by hand, from the top, both cables if you have cruise. Lithium grease gets too thick in cold weather and causes speedometer cable chatter. I have used calcium grease (garage door opener grease). There also will be an oil cup where the cable attaches to the speedometer that must be oiled with light machine oil. If you forget to oil that, the speedo will bounce.
