Old Man with a Hat
I did the same thing Fel-Pro 60123 1/4" open gasket with an Edelbrock 800 cfm AVS 2 carb. 440 in my 1970 Fury Convertible runs great.Removed the 4-hole 1/4" phenolic carb spacer from between the Holley Sniper and Edelbrock Performer on the 440 in my 300 and replaced it with a 1/4" open spacer. The 4-hole wasn't bad, but the open spacer really improved idle quality, throttle response and overall driveability.
I don't have hood clearance to try anything thicker, but with the open spacer it's like I have a poor man's Edelbrock Performer Air Gap that I can revert to a standard dual plane intake any time I want.
Here are the spacers I've tried:

Same Hood Clearance Problem. Had to use factory intake to get low enough to run my dual snorkel
BTW, Hello from a fellow Virginian. Hope I get to see your car some time!
