Holy Grail? Its a late model small hole bunk on there, note different handles on doors compared to bunk doors, wheel base is way long for 1971 regulations. I know they did make the longer hood for the "big" engines like that 12 71 Detroit diesel in there but as the story board shows was a day cab to fit length resrictions. This truck was most likely a heavy haul truck of its day. Stan can probably elaborate on length stuff that was just about gone by the time I got into trucking, and new england definitely has issues with length. Nice truck though just so I don't have to put fuel in it. IMHO any peterbilt with a nine on the end of the model number is something to get excited about.

Looking at the pictures on the picture board you can see it originally didn't have the sleeper or the tandem rear axle.

That would be the %&$. The V12 is a really hard one to find. Not many where made of any make. Usually I find that engine in a generator. What a sound though, slinging oil everywhere. Everything I have driven with a v12 has been euphoric.
Yes Dave. The 359 is pretty exciting. I had a couple brother in laws that had a few. With the 425 Cat. They would get one, and then sell it 10 minutes later because someone offered them a few dollars more. Then drive something like a T600, and tell me they should have never sold it. Rinse and repeat, while I shook my head.

An example of of what an Midwest O/O would have wanted.
Admire it as a piece of art.
You couldn't pay me to drive it commercially today.
Our distribution facility was brand new and state of the art.
Yet iIf a semi-tractor with a wheelbase like that came in with a 53 footer, he'd have to tip the yardman 10 bucks to have him put the trailer into the dock.
The cab isn't air-ride. I consider that mandatory today. I want to stand up in my sleeper.
3 mpg will never get you a paying load. Yadda yadda yadda.

Bore the other members they should be on the edge of their seats waiting for the next trucker adventure of such an exciting job. Yeah right.
Stan I'm surprised that wheelbase is only 250-260 my 94 was 275, they should have streatched it to 300 imho, and sleeping standing up is over rated I prefer to lay down, lol, also looks out of place on truck that old, of course if your pulling a door swinger you might as well have a high bunk. Also on top of fuel for that thing is the gallons of oil/thousand miles that is 16-18$ at struck stop now.

I still go to the manufacturer's websites and try to pick out the ideal tractor. I've yet to do it.

The CB is still a good piece when those sudden stops/brake checks happen. I know I probably would have had to thread the needle when people just decide that "oh that was my turn, stop and figure out where to turn" if it weren't for the radio.

IS CB still the majority down in the US? Up here in BC most guys run VHF radios.
BREAKER BREAKER OVER RODGER. What I wanna know iz how BJ and the Bear seemed to never take on ah load of fuel, never run out, and never haul any freight?
