That helped somewhat. Got my engine/trans and paint color and build date.

The internet based decoder tools are mediocre at best especially for '68 and older tags. There really isn't an accurate one. The best thing to do is post a pic of the tag and let some of the best tag readers on the planet decipher it.

The bottom row is just the car line (Sport Fury) Body type (convertible) engine (318) transmission (automatic)

Tires, Build Date and shipping order (the last bunch of numbers don't look right)

All the options are in the codes under the letters, sometimes it is easier to look at the back side.

41= 318
5= automatic transmission
53= tires= 8.25x14 white wall tires
1521= There is an extra digit in there. If this should be 521 then = Scheduled production date of May 21st.
A15033 = Sales order (SO) number . The A tells us the car was built for sale in Canada. 15033 is just the rest of the SO number

Thanks but I'm not that guy. I was thinking Doug for the '68 and older tags, he's the man. I can hold my own but My confidence isn't really high with them.

The 1 under G and R and S I'm unsure about. Power steering, power brakes and A/C are pretty much the only options the car has, I'm guessing that is what they are. I'll verify if there is 36 punched on the tag at the upper right when I get home and can check on the car.

The 36 probably is an inspection punch or related to body in white assembly. More research required....
