apparently this car, seen at the monthly flea market on the old NAS Alameda, appears to be a daily driver... a 1970 Sport Fury GT

Looks like one to me but I'm a slab guy so what do I know.

has sport fury front turn signals...tri color rear trunk key but is missing any sorta decal and sport fury trim around trunk key area..no holes
don't belive the trim on the sail panel is in the right position...
inside door panel says sport fury...look to be correct exaust tips but just a sumption there..challenger tips may have been added

Interesting. Note the plate is an original blue/yellow plate saying 440 GT. Poser going all the way back to 1970?

Then there is that Union Yes bumper sticker. There's gotta be one person here who likes that. Plus the Northcoast license plate frame from a Mopar dealership in the Eureka area way up in Northern California. looks like he brought some leaves down with him.

not up on my plates but if orriginall would lead one to think it is a GT..obviously vin tag would help but lack of any vissable decals or decal residue or fadeing would have me thinkin repaint..this would explain missing holes for sportfury trim at rear on trunk

Maybe the trunk GT decal/tape is covering the holes. The car does look like a Sport Fury but to know more you need to see the fender tag or the VIN. Remember the GT was nothing more than a dressed up Sport Fury with juiced up 440.

Very early-style blue and yellow CA vanity tag says "440 GT", from back in the day when CA had a limit of six characters

If a true "GT" it would have some part of the strobe stripe on it. Although it does have the super hard to get "GT" exhaust tips (that look as weathered as the rest of the car)

Doesn't have the turn signals in the hood bulges...wouldn't the sfgt get those automatically?

hope it is a real one..if it is original plate don't imagine he`ll be selling anytime soon...who knows this is his daily driver and mayby he has a 6bbl stashed in his garage fer giggles....

Could you really get a vanity plate in California in 1970? I don't recall that, but then I was in Michigan for a few years in that period, and might have missed it being available.

Yes, the California Special Interest Plate program started with the introduction of the blue plate in 69/70, at that time they were limited to 6 digits, several years later they changed it to 7, these are the 7 digit series (the letters are narrower 7 digit ones).

Those look like the wider numbers/letters for the six-digit series, to me. Either way, they are OLD tags.

These look to be pre 1975 plates which used the narrow die set for the state name. The actual numbers were a little thicker at the start. When it started to get close to running out of 6 digit combinations the state prepared for it by narrowing the numbers prior to the issuing of the 7 digit plates.

The switch from 6 to 7 digits happened about 1980 and the plates were changed about 1977, not because of the impending depletion of the 6 digit plates but because the commercial plates ran out at that time and the dies were changed across the board.

I still think the plate on this car is from the 7 digit era (about 1977-1987).
Here is a black plate with a G on it, the G on this plate is rectangular with rounded corners.

Also here is a blue plate with a G on it, the G on this plate is also rectangular with rounded corners.

Last up is a 7 digit plate with a G on it, on this plate the G is rounded, also the gap on the G is about the same as the thickness of the stroke.
