Hi everyone! I am in the beginning stages of restoring/swapping the engine in a Fury I picked up. The Fury has been living in a barn for 20+ years and is in amazing shape considering. I will keep the original engine/transmission just in case I ever decide to undo the engine swap.

I already bought a 440 and a 727 tranny to go in it. What do you think of the plan and budget? Trying to decide on what engine rebuild to go with. Anyone have experience?

Well, not my taste but it's better than the slow death in a barn...
Plenty of pics, especially of what you started with.

hey man I think there is a lot of work getting from a 318 to a 440. id learn about that procedure before going and spending all your $.
if you took that $ and put it into the 318, you may have a screamer 318.

and like on the carb/intake swap - you also need a valley pan, maybe some carb linkage, choke linkage, etc., a tube of pookey, etc.

keep reading posts here - we love to spend other peoples money so you will get lots of help.

try not to die -

Going small block to big block is a major swap. You'll have to swap the k-frame along with many of the extremities to make it safe. Be prepared for a long and possibly annoying process if you do the swap. On a side note, the 318 poly can be built to be a great engine. Why not resell the 440 and save the hassle? -318 build- P.S. You won't get much "approval" on the design aspects that you seem to be going for. The members here have seen one too many a great car turned into a hack jobbed POS to enjoy such a prospect. Good luck with your build!

Yea.. quite a list of "to dos" Best of luck on the project and I will be looking for the thread with all the progression pics.

What K-frame?

This is a K-frame...

Oops. I'm still learnin'. C bodies dont have K-frames... lol. You still have to swap the whole subframe, right? Or is it just a matter of swapping motor mounts?

Hi..... :welcome:, I thought I'd help you out and revised your list. You might look up the definition of "restore" too. Nothing like what your planning.
With this format you will be enjoying your car much sooner.

Good luck

you'll probably have another $500 in things like hoses, clamps, bolts, belts, wire and connectors etc. they ad up quick.

Check out Schumacher creative designs, they helped me out with engine mounts and other bits of information on completing the big block swap in a 67b Fury III. My engine guy put together my 440 with stealth heads and a QFT 650cfm carb. I have a comp cam, eagle connecting rods but I don't recall the piston brand. I'm at about 550hp and the it runs great with the 3200 rpm stall and the 3.23 gear out back. You'll see that people on this forum are split on the upgrade to an electronic ignition system so read carefully and make your decision based on your usage and needs.

Oh, I forgot to mention you will definitely need a taller valve cover to accommodate the stealth heads. (You can pick up a fabricated aluminum valve cover for a reasonable price) Check 440 source for a a high flow water pump and make sure you buy one that has the outlet on the same side as your radiator.

I'm still curious. Do you have to swap the stubframe?
Looking at my 383 and 318 car, they looked different.
