Opinion from the Formal Best & Brightest - Antenna

Ideally, you find a genuine Mopar NOS antenna for $100, but I haven't found that.

The fuselage antennas are shorter.... otherwise I would have a Lincoln antenna being delivered to my house via a uniformed government employee.

Lost the bid. I did see others though in EBay I may look into.

I like it... I have a much better chance of find an old fomoco product in the u pull it. I was starting to think these would never surface in usable condition.

So with minimal mods you think fomoco may work? I would like to stay pure to my NYB, but, if OE's aren't out there at a reasonable price, if at all.. Then....

To be sure you understand... The FOMOCO antenna I posted was an idea that I think might work. It might not too. If it works... it's going to give us another source for a hard to find item. If it doesn't... well... it doesn't.

I'd gamble my money on it... but I would never advise anyone else to.

Understood.. Thanks for the honest advise.

Time for an update.
It appears to me after disecting the unit down to the last rivet, that the Mopar and the FoMoCo motors are the same.
The difference is in the mast assemblies, i.e. the lengths.
If the motor works, the plastic cord can be replaced using . 085 weed whacker line. .085 is perfect. In the Electrical Service Manual, there are detailed instructions for the replacement
of the cord.
In the case of the 74-78 C-bodies, the unit must be replaced by an identical unit of the same length because of the mounting location and very limited space allocated to it. I cannot see an aftermarket unit fitting in there.
I was fortunate in finding a very good used power antenna. $100 vs. what appears to be the only NOS unit out there for $300. Ackk... It is working great.

Thanks Stan for all your efforts.. It will certainly be helpful to me when I decide to drop the inner fender and dig into this project.

Stan, In your experience would this fix be typical of most C bodies? My '70 needs a rebuild and this sounds intriguing,
