Convertible Fury - 1970

Thanks. I did see the needle move in the accessory position this morning. But for some reason there is a clicking noise that sounds like the starter solenoid when I have the key in the accessory position so I didn't leave it there long.

God knows that this thing was used for on the Idaho farm. Choke wired open, throttle relay not hooked up, and check out this hitch!

There is a small ground stap at the gas tank hose connections. I don' t know for sure that was the culprit but my fuel gauge seems to be working since I replaced that strap. I made one with 2 small binder clips and a wire between them

A few under-the-hood oddities:
Top left is an antennae missing the mast. Not sure what the wire is. The bulb looks like part of the turn signal in the hood, but I don't remember what the original looks like. Cantflip is right about the linkage on the carb. That needs to be corrected before you ruin the trans.

The antenna wire goes through the firewall, presumably to the radio. I found another loose wire of the same size leading from the passenger fender that has an end that looks like it should plug into the radio. When they replaced the passenger fender, I think they put it on with whatever antenna and cable was on it and left the original cable attached to the radio. So there are two cables with loose ends! As for the turn signal, I think the original signal must have burned out so they jury-rigged that bulb up to shine through the original signal housing. I won't drive it until I figure out the kickdown, except in the driveway to move it around.

I can't get the thing to run, but I can clean damn it!

Somewhere in the universe there is some extremely pissed off mildew...

Excellent cleanup...

looks great, but from experience, take the steering wheel center off (possibly the wheel too) and clean behind them. the mildew gets in all of the cracks and crevices behind them. it will eliminate a lot of the smell and lessen the chances of it coming back.
for some reason the mildew loves this kind of plastic.

Yes, I'll do that. It's really cruddy behind there. The center is already loose anyways. I wish the carburetor would respond to soap, water, and elbow grease.

It's cleaning up pretty well. I wish the front valence didn't look so crappy though. It must have been part of the same repair job as the passenger fender replacement. I also got it running. The choke was wired into the open position. It started up when I removed the wire so the choke could actually choke.

go into the "more options' tab to your posts and expand the pics to full size.

I did this one for you.

btw are you really tall?

Very nice find Jeff. Has it been converted to electronic ignition? Looks like that wire you were holding was the old points distributor wire

I'll try to remember to resize the pics. No, not super tall, just took the picture from steps leading up to the house to try to minimize the ugly, rusty valence. I don't know if it is electronic ignition. How do you tell?

I was happily surprised to learn today that the car has front disc brakes. Is there a code for that on the fender tag?

Here's what the MyMopar fender tag decoder came up with. The V5X code doesn't seem right, but other things match up.
