Custom cars

Here's the Manufacturers Hanover Anycar I. It was built in the mid 70's by Gene Winfield for the banks car loan commercials. I repainted this car in the late 70's while I was working in a shop in Mt. Kisco NY.

Imagine today someone buying a real nice' 57, and turning it into what you see above.
Now imagine that person joining FCBO...

Then imagine the crap being heaped on their heads.... LOL!!

Love customs... take away the lake pipes and spot lights... tell me what else was a bolt on for any of the cars shown previously...

And yet a set of stupid wheels and some bolt on "visual horsepower" and suddenly too many believe they are the next big deal...

The cars shown, even the ugly ones, showed somebodies fabrication skills and imagination gone wild.

The chopping, channeling , shaving and frenching that was done with rudimentary tools is amazing. The use of lead and fiberglass really aloud them to build thier wildest dreams. I agree with you John on some ugly cars. I've seen some hideousness that came from that ere also. Not everything Ed Roth built was beautiful. I can't flippin find that truck you posted Stan do you know the name?

Here's a nice moopar!

I've seen this Winfield custom in person. It's one of his recent ones. Beautiful!! I got to shake his hand and talk to him for a minute at auto Rama. Cool fella!

Loved mercs as long as I can remember... teenage dream was to build one not too different from the look of this hollywood nightmare... I would have preferred a 51, but loved the basic attitude of this car... too low is fine, but even then I knew I wanted to drive... I'm sure it was a quick build for the wreck...

I'd also put Jeff Lilly in the customizer category but they do a lot of frame off resto stuff and seem to be focusing there lately.

I've heard of Voodoo,Ring Bro's and few the others on on the list. Agreed they are doing some really nice work, without the nutty mods. Clean customs are my favorite but there always be a place in my heart for the rods I used to see at the shows with my grandpa. Miss those times!
