Were Imperials related to the C-bodies of this time frame?

I believe (if I read correctly) that 62 brought in a new Imperial that looked C-body-ish. How closely related are they if at all?

Cue Stan's spreadsheet....why is there no sticky on that thing??

A new Imperial was proposed in '62, but it didn't happen. Imperials from '57-'66 used different sheetmetal and trim, but similar frames and cowl sections. In 67, they became more closely related to C-bodies, by virtue of using a unibody vs. Body-on-frame, but there were still numerous differnces until '74.

Very interesting. I've been a life long mopar guy, but C bodies are new to me. I never knew Imperial was its own line.

Thats a huge problem ..Mopar guys claiming to be Mopar guys but they arent really. They are at best Mopar muscle guys. These are the guys that "used to" and I say "used to" because most are growing out of the muscle head stage...only look at C bodies as organ donors. The guys that couldnt tell the difference between a 300, Fury or Monaco, and never heard of a Polara.
There is so much more beyond Road Runners and Challengers yet they claim to be Mopar guys.......

that's not fair to say at all I have been a mopar guy all my life. have 4 a bodies. not all muscle cars. have a 35 Plymouth 340 hot rod and my 66 fury wagon c body. I love them all. you don't have to be an old c body guy to be a mopar guy old man.

So whats not fair? And where did I imply this "you don't have to be an old c body guy to be a mopar guy old man"?

I can tell you most C body guys know the years of most other body lines, not just their own.

its not fair to imply so called non c body owners look at c bodies as organ donors. I implied the last part.

Its ok to profile, its ok to generalize. . . . dont really care if its fair . It is however the truth in my observations of being a passionate Mopar lover for 35 + years.

onnnn a rare note had the opportunity to spend a little time lying about Dobalvr with Tobias this evening and during the chuckles and bad lies saw his 70/71 300 which turns out to be a actual U code 300/sunroof car less engine...never seen one before
.....turns out the fella he bought the car off knew the fella that had the engine and apparently after 8 years it was still sitting in his garage where he left it after pulling it....
never did do anything with it and it just sat...anyway guess Tobias snapped it up and is now back with the car.....there that's FCBO,s feel good story for the day
now that ive got folks attention...get involved

There actually are two more original U code sun roof cars still known to be around. And the yellow 1971 New Yorker has its original engine and the 1971 Aztec Gold one's engine is missing, and I am told the original engine now sits in a fully restored Cuda, so it is unlikely to go back home. But there is another U code engine waiting to go in it, even if it won't be matching nos now. Both owned by some nutcase collector in California:

Very interesting. Y bodies eh? And then C bodies after 67. I'm learning all sorts of new stuff. I'm still heavily into mopar trucks/vans and it's kind of the same in that world as well. As hard as numbers are in the c body world, its worse for trucks/vans. A lot of the packages outside of the lil red express, most of the special trucks had no indication of what they are outside of the build sheets IF they still poses it.

It's funny how many people I know that have gotten out of the muscle cars because they just aren't fun anymore.

I was only familiar with Chrysler Imperials. The Imperial line has been a new discovery for me. Pretty cool stuff!

Imperials were NOT "Y"-bodies...they had a "Y" in the VIN, yes, but the '65 & '66 Imperials are "D"-body cars. Later cars are "C"-bodies. Saying the Imperial is a "Y" would be like saying a Coronet is a "W"-body. Imperials are referred to in my '66 parts manual as a "Y" as a car line, yet it is a "D"-body car. Just as Coronet is the "W" car line, yet is a "B"-body car. There is the difference.
